Free AI beat maker

Describe a beat in words, with a tempo, a drum style and a bass sound, and the free open-source model on this page generates it as audio. It is a prompt-based beat generator rather than a step sequencer, and it runs on shared Hugging Face hardware operated by a third party.

Free third-party demo · runs on Hugging Face (magenta-community-magenta-rt-jam.hf.space)

Magenta RealTime by Google (Magenta team), model weights CC BY 4.0, code Apache-2.0.

Open it on Hugging Face (opens in a new tab)

The demo can take up to a minute to start. Hugging Face gives every visitor a small amount of free GPU time per day, so a run can fail when that is used up or the Space is busy. Open it on Hugging Face (opens in a new tab)

Third-party, open-model demo

This free demo is hosted on Hugging Face Spaces and runs an open model. It is not part of the AI Song Generator Studio, it does not use Studio credits, and its usage limits are set by Hugging Face.

Steps

How to use it

  1. Start the demo

Select Try free demo. The beat maker loads from Hugging Face only after you click.

  2. Set the groove in words

Name the style and tempo first, for example 'boom-bap, 90 BPM, swung hi-hats'. If the demo has separate BPM or key fields, fill those in as well.

  3. Ask for an instrumental

Write 'instrumental, no vocals' or tick the instrumental option, so the model doesn't add singing on top of your beat.

  4. Generate 20 to 40 seconds

A loop-length clip is enough to judge the groove and is easier on the shared GPU allowance than a full track.

  5. Download and chop

If you like the result, download it and cut a clean loop on the downbeat in your audio editor or DAW.

How to describe a beat so the model gets it

Beat prompts work best when they read like a producer's notes. Lead with the genre and tempo, then the drums, then the low end, then one melodic element. Leave space: a beat with five lead instruments rarely sounds like a beat.

  • Drums: 'four-on-the-floor kick', 'half-time snare on three', 'rolling hi-hat triplets', 'dusty sampled-style breakbeat'.
  • Low end: 'long sliding 808', 'round sub bass', 'plucked upright bass', 'squelchy acid bassline'.
  • Melody: 'eerie bell motif', 'wordless vocal chop', 'detuned Rhodes chords', 'sparse piano stabs'.
  • Feel: 'laid-back and swung', 'tight and aggressive', 'hypnotic and repetitive'.

What a free AI beat maker can't do

Text-to-music models render the whole mix in one pass. Inside the demo you cannot move a single hi-hat, change one kick pattern or mute the bass. Tempo requests are followed loosely, so check the BPM before you build on a result, and expect the start and end of a clip not to loop perfectly.

There are practical limits too. The demo shares GPUs with everyone else, anonymous visitors get a small daily allowance from Hugging Face, and the queue slows down at busy times. If the Space is asleep, your first click wakes it, which can take a while.

Can you sell beats from a free generator?

Only if the model's license and the Space's terms allow commercial use, and even then you shouldn't promise a buyer exclusive rights unless you are sure you hold them. AI beats can also resemble other generated beats, because many people use similar prompts. If you plan to lease or sell beats, keep a record of how each one was made.

What producers get in the paid Studio

The AI Song Generator Studio is paid only and built for people who keep working on a beat after the first render.

  • Instrumental mode, which sends no lyrics and asks the model for no vocals, plus a style description and an exclusion list for sounds you do not want.
  • Stem splitting, so you can pull drums, bass and melodic parts into your DAW and rebuild the arrangement.
  • Extend a beat from any point, and replace a section that falls apart.
  • WAV export for clean audio, and a private library that keeps every version.
  • Add Vocals when you want a topline on your beat, using lyrics you supply.

Prompts

Prompts to try

Starting points you can paste into Create and adjust. Specific details — tempo, instruments, mood, structure — give the most control.

  1. Late-night trapInstrumental

Dark trap beat, 142 BPM with a half-time feel, long sliding 808 in F minor, crisp hi-hat rolls, eerie bell melody, sparse and menacing, instrumental

Putting tempo, key and the 808 up front sets the foundation.

  2. Dusty boom-bapInstrumental

Boom-bap hip-hop beat, 90 BPM, swung hi-hats, punchy sampled-style kick and snare, warm upright bass, mellow jazz piano chords, no vocals

'Swung' and 'sampled-style' push the groove toward a classic hip-hop feel.

  3. Deep house grooveInstrumental

Deep house groove, 122 BPM, four-on-the-floor kick, offbeat open hi-hats, rubbery bassline, warm chord stabs, instrumental, 32 bars

Dance styles respond well to a bar count and a clear kick pattern.

  4. Amapiano-inspired percussionInstrumental

Amapiano-inspired groove, 112 BPM, log drum bass, layered shakers and congas, airy piano chords, relaxed late-afternoon feel, instrumental

Percussion-heavy prompts benefit from naming two or three specific instruments.

  5. Lo-fi study loopInstrumental

Lo-fi beat for studying, 72 BPM, soft kick, rim clicks, tape-wobbled piano, gentle rain ambience, loop-friendly, instrumental

'Loop-friendly' nudges the model toward a steady, repeating structure.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this free beat generator really free?
Yes. There is no charge and no AI Song Generator account. Hugging Face's daily GPU allowance for anonymous visitors is the only limit, and it can run out after one or two beats.
Can I set an exact BPM?
You can ask for one, and some demos have a BPM field, but open models treat tempo as a suggestion. Measure the result with a tap-tempo tool or your DAW before you build on it.
Can I get the drums on a separate track?
Not from the free demo, which outputs one mixed file. In the Studio you can split a beat into stems such as drums, bass and other instruments.
Can I use beats from the demo in my songs or sell them?
Check the open model's license first. Some allow commercial use and some don't, and a free demo can't give you exclusive rights. For Studio tracks, commercial-use eligibility depends on your inputs, your plan, the Terms and applicable law.
Why doesn't my beat loop cleanly?
The model generates a continuous piece of music, not a loop. Trim it on the downbeat in an audio editor, or ask for a 'loop-friendly' groove with a steady pattern.
Where can I make beats for free?
Three places. The demo on this page turns a text description into a beat with no account. A free DAW on your computer gives you a drum sequencer and a piano roll for programming beats by hand, and some computers come with one installed. Browser-based beat sequencers let you click patterns on a grid without installing anything. The demo is quickest for ideas, while a DAW is where you learn to build and edit a beat step by step. Check the license of any sample pack before you release a beat.
