AI beat maker for hip-hop, trap, house and more

The AI Song Generator AI beat maker generates instrumental beats from a description of the drums, bass, tempo and mood. Write over them, split them into stems for your DAW, or build a beat around vocals you have already recorded.

Steps

How it works

  1. Describe the layers

Drums, bass, melody, tempo and feel, all in one style line.

  2. Set Instrumental and a length

Turn lyrics off, and set a duration in Custom mode if it matters.

  3. Generate and pick

Compare versions for groove, punch and space for a vocal.

  4. Split or extend

Split stems for your DAW, or extend the beat to add another section.

Describe the beat in layers

Beats are built from layers, and prompts work best when they describe each layer briefly:

  • Drums: "dusty boom bap kit", "crisp trap hats with rolls", "swung shuffle"
  • Bass: "deep sliding sub bass", "round live bass", "acid line"
  • Melody or chords: "soul-style chords", "dark bell melody", "jazzy electric piano"
  • Tempo and feel: "around 140 bpm, half-time", "lazy swing"
  • Space: "leave room for vocals", "sparse verse, fuller hook"

Starting points by genre

Tempos written in the style line are targets the model leans toward, not locked values, so check the BPM before you sync anything to the beat.

  • Boom bap: 90 bpm, dusty drums, chopped jazz piano, upright bass
  • Trap: 140 bpm half-time, rolling hats, booming sub, dark bells
  • Afrobeats: 104 bpm, syncopated percussion, shakers, warm bass, bright guitar licks
  • House: 124 bpm, four-on-the-floor, offbeat hats, warm chords
  • Lo-fi: 78 bpm, soft kick, vinyl crackle, mellow keys

A beat for vocals or lyrics you already have

If you recorded a vocal or a rap a cappella first, do not generate a beat blind. Use add instrumental: upload the vocal you own or pick one from your library, describe the beat, and the accompaniment is built around your performance.

If you only have written lyrics, generate the song in Custom mode with those lyrics, then split off the instrumental. That gives you a beat arranged around your words, which you can rap or sing over yourself.

Stems for producers

A multi-stem split separates a beat into drums, bass, keys, synths and other parts as MP3 stems, so you can mute, replace or re-process them in your DAW. Export WAV for the full mix. On the Pro plan you can also convert one stem, such as the bass or a synth line, to a MIDI file.

Length and sections

Set the length in Custom mode, from 10 seconds for a short idea up to 6 minutes for a full-length beat. Ask for an intro, a switch-up or a breakdown in the style line, and extend the beat from any point when you need another section.

What you get

  • MP3 of each beat
  • WAV export
  • Multi-stem MP3s (drums, bass and more)
  • MIDI from a chosen stem (Pro)

Prompts

Example prompts

Starting points you can paste into Create and adjust. Specific details — tempo, instruments, mood, structure — give the most control.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a beat for my lyrics?
Yes. If you have a recording, use add instrumental to build a beat around it. If you only have written lyrics, generate the song in Custom mode and split off the instrumental, which is arranged around your words.
Will the beat match an exact tempo?
Write the tempo you want into the style line and the beat will usually land close to it. Measure it before syncing, because the value is a target rather than a setting.
Can I get the drums on their own?
Yes. A multi-stem split separates drums, bass and other parts into MP3 stems, on plans that include multi-stem splitting.
Are the beats loops?
They are full-length instrumentals rather than short loops. For a loop, use the sound generator (Creator plan and up), which makes short loopable phrases at a tempo and key you choose; to make a beat longer, extend it or trim it in your editor.
Can I sell beats I make?
That depends on your plan and the Terms, your inputs, and applicable law. Check them, and the rules of any marketplace you sell on, before listing beats.
How can I make a beat?
Decide the genre and tempo, then describe the beat in layers: the drum pattern, the bass or 808, one melodic element and the mood, for example 'boom bap, 90 BPM, dusty snare, warm bass, jazzy piano loop'. Set lyrics to Instrumental, generate and compare the beats that come back. Keep the closest one, extend it if you need more bars, and split it into stems if you want to rework the drums in a DAW. To program beats by hand instead, our guide on how to make beats covers patterns step by step.
Where can I make beats for free?
Not in the AI Song Generator Studio, which is paid, with the credit cost shown before each beat. Our free AI beat maker page embeds a third-party open-source demo that turns a description into a short beat with no account, within daily limits set by Hugging Face. To program beats by hand at no cost, use a DAW with a no-cost version; most include a drum sequencer and a piano roll.
