Free demo

Free AI instrumental generator

Describe a mood, a setting and a lead instrument, and the free open-source model on this page creates instrumental music with no vocals. The demo is hosted by a third party on Hugging Face Spaces, so expect shared daily limits and the occasional wait.

Powered by Stability AI.

Open it on Hugging Face (opens in a new tab)

The demo can take up to a minute to start. Hugging Face gives every visitor a small amount of free GPU time per day, so a run can fail when that is used up or the Space is busy. Open it on Hugging Face (opens in a new tab)

Third-party, open-model demo

This free demo is hosted on Hugging Face Spaces and runs an open model. It is not part of the AI Song Generator Studio, it does not use Studio credits, and its usage limits are set by Hugging Face.

Steps

How to use it

  1. Load the instrumental demo

Click Try free demo to start the third-party Space embedded on this page.

  2. Switch off vocals

Tick the instrumental option if the demo has one, and add 'instrumental, no vocals' to your description anyway.

  3. Say what the music is for

A purpose such as 'background for a cooking video' or 'menu screen for a puzzle game' helps the model choose a sensible energy level.

  4. Shape the arc

Ask for a beginning, a lift and an ending, for example 'starts with solo piano, strings join halfway, ends softly'.

  5. Keep the first run short

Request under a minute, listen, then adjust one detail at a time.

Good uses for free instrumentals

Instrumental clips from an open model are handy for drafts and personal projects: a temporary score while you edit a video, a backing loop for practice, background for a slideshow, or a mood reference for a game prototype. They let you hear an idea before you spend money or time on it.

For anything public, check the model license first. Video platforms match uploads against audio that rights holders have registered, so a fresh generation is unlikely to match anything, but keep notes on how each clip was made in case a claim ever appears.

Writing prompts for instrumentals

Instrumental prompts need a clear lead voice and a sense of place. Without them, models tend to produce a pleasant but anonymous wash of sound.

  • Name a lead instrument: 'nylon-string guitar', 'felt piano', 'solo cello', 'analog synth lead'.
  • Give a setting: 'sunrise over a harbor town', 'tense stealth level', 'focused late-night study session'.
  • Set the energy with tempo words: 'slow and spacious', 'steady mid-tempo', 'fast and urgent'.
  • Leave out story lines and names, which can tempt a model into adding vocals.

Known issues with free instrumental demos

Even with vocals switched off, some open models add humming or choir-like textures. Endings can stop abruptly, and loudness may jump between sections. Long pieces are the hardest to get from a shared demo, because each request reserves GPU time from the small daily allowance that Hugging Face gives visitors who are not signed in.

The Space itself is outside our control. It may be sleeping when you arrive, busy with a long queue, or temporarily unavailable if its owner changes it.

Instrumentals in the paid Studio

In the AI Song Generator Studio, Instrumental is a dedicated mode that sends the request without lyrics and tells the model not to add vocals. The Studio is paid only, and it adds tools for turning a sketch into something you can use.

  • Set a target length of up to six minutes in Custom mode, and extend further from any point.
  • Use the Background Music and Soundtrack tools for presets aimed at videos, podcasts and scenes.
  • Replace a weak section instead of regenerating the whole piece.
  • Export WAV, split stems, and keep every version in a private library.

Prompts

Prompts to try

Starting points you can paste into Create and adjust. Specific details — tempo, instruments, mood, structure — give the most control.

  1. Cooking-video backgroundInstrumental

Light acoustic instrumental for a home cooking video, ukulele and glockenspiel melody, soft shaker, cheerful but not distracting, 100 BPM, no vocals

Stating the use keeps the energy at background level.

  2. Puzzle game menuInstrumental

Calm instrumental for a puzzle game menu screen, marimba and soft synth pads, gentle pulse, loop-friendly, no vocals

'Loop-friendly' helps for menus and idle screens.

  3. Study sessionInstrumental

Slow ambient piano instrumental for studying, felt piano, distant tape hiss, warm low drone, very sparse, no drums, no vocals

Saying 'no drums' is as useful as saying what you want.

  4. Documentary tensionInstrumental

Tense documentary underscore, pulsing low strings, ticking percussion, muted brass swells, builds slowly, ends unresolved, instrumental

An ending instruction stops short clips from cutting off mid-phrase.

  5. Jazz trio loungeInstrumental

Instrumental jazz trio, brushed drums, walking upright bass, relaxed piano comping and a short solo, small late-night club feel, 120 BPM swing

Naming the ensemble gives the model a clear arrangement to follow.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will the free instrumental generator add vocals by accident?
It can. Some open models add humming or wordless choirs even when vocals are off. Add 'no vocals' to the prompt and avoid story-like wording. The Studio's Instrumental mode sends no lyrics and asks the model for no vocals.
How do I make a longer instrumental for free?
Generate a short clip first, then try a longer request when the queue is quiet. Long pieces use more of the shared GPU allowance, so they fail more often. In the Studio you can set a length of up to six minutes and extend from there.
Can I use free AI instrumentals in YouTube videos?
Possibly, if the model license allows it. Read the license on the model's Hugging Face page and note the model and date. For Studio tracks, commercial-use eligibility depends on your inputs, your plan, the Terms and the law.
How is this different from the free AI beat maker?
The beat maker focuses on drums, bass and grooves for producers. This page is for full instrumental pieces, such as ambient, cinematic, acoustic or jazz music, where a melody carries the track.
Does it cost anything?
No. The demo is free and needs no AI Song Generator account. The only limits are Hugging Face's daily allowance and queue for visitors who are not signed in.
