AI EDM: builds, drops and electronic dance styles
EDM is engineered around the build and the drop, so when you generate EDM music in AI Song Generator you describe the tempo, the drop style and the energy curve, then pick the variation where the drop hits hardest.

How it works
Pick the sub-genre and BPM
The tempo tells the generator a lot: 128 for big room, 138 for trance, 150 half-time for melodic bass, 174 for drum and bass.
Describe the energy curve
Say where the track breathes and where it explodes: intro, build, first drop, breakdown, second drop, outro.
Name the drop
A supersaw lead, a wobbling bass, chopped vocal-like textures or a pluck melody. The drop element is the identity of the track.

The anatomy of an EDM track
EDM is a family of styles made for big rooms and festivals, and almost all of them share one shape: an intro, a build that raises tension with risers, snare rolls and filter sweeps, a drop where the main hook and the full bass land, a quieter breakdown, a second build and a second drop. The drop is usually instrumental or uses short vocal chops; a sung vocal, when there is one, lives in the breakdown and the build.
Sound design matters as much as notes. Supersaw chords, pads that pump with the kick through sidechain compression, layered sub and mid bass and sharp drums define the genre more than any chord progression. Harmony is mostly minor-key and simple, with emotional four-chord loops in the melodic styles.
EDM sub-genres and their tempos
Each style has a tempo and a drop character, and naming both in the style line is the quickest route to the right sound. The two demos on this page cover different ends: Lavender Circuit is melodic electronic at a 150 BPM half-time feel with glassy keys and euphoric drops, and Neon After Midnight is a nocturnal synthwave song with a vocal and a wide chorus.
- Big room: 126 to 130 BPM, huge kick, a simple lead riff, festival chant energy.
- Progressive and trance: 128 to 140 BPM, long builds, rolling bass, uplifting arpeggios and supersaw leads.
- Future bass: 140 to 160 BPM in half-time, wobbling supersaw chords, chopped vocal textures, bright and emotional.
- Dubstep: 140 BPM half-time, heavy modulated bass, sparse and aggressive drops.
- Drum and bass: 170 to 176 BPM, fast breakbeats, rolling or growling detuned bass, liquid or heavy variants.
- Synthwave: 80 to 118 BPM, retro analog synths, gated drums, a nostalgic neon mood, often with vocals.
Prompting EDM in Simple and Custom mode
In Simple mode, describe the moment and the energy: "a closing set at a beach festival, the crowd has danced all night, euphoric melodic drop". In Custom mode, write the style line like a production note, leading with the sub-genre and BPM, then the build tools and the drop element: "future bass, 150 BPM half-time, wide supersaw chords, pitched vocal chops, snare roll build, punchy sidechained drop, bright and emotional".
Exclude keeps the energy where you want it. "Acoustic guitar, jazz piano, live drums, rap verse" removes common intruders. For a pure instrumental, turn on instrumental mode; if you still hear sung words, add "lead vocal" to Exclude and ask for "vocal chops with no intelligible words" instead.
Instrumental tips for builds and drops
Most EDM requests are instrumental. Describe the build in concrete terms, such as an eight-bar riser, a snare roll that doubles in speed, a filter opening on the chords and one beat of silence before the drop. Without that, generated builds can be short and drops can feel flat. Ask for contrast between the breakdown and the drop, for example "soft piano breakdown, then full supersaw drop".
Extend from just before the breakdown to add a second drop, and use replace section when one drop works and the other does not. Stems help too: split the track to mute the bass for a cleaner breakdown, or take the drums and lead separately into a live set or a remix. Convert the final mix to WAV before mastering or loading it into DJ software.
Honest limits
Generated EDM tends toward familiar sounds: the same supersaw chords, the same risers and drops that land on stock patterns. Mixes can be loud but less punchy than a finished club master, the low end can get muddy, and the tempo can wander on long tracks. Listen to each variation on good speakers or headphones, check the BPM, and use specific sound design words rather than "epic" or "banger". If a drop needs more weight, master the WAV in your DAW instead of generating again and again.
