AI lofi music generator
The AI Song Generator Studio turns a short description into an instrumental lofi track with lazy swung drums, warm jazzy chords and a softly worn texture. Name the tempo, the keys and the scene, and the generator builds the loop around them.

After the Rain
Steps
How it works
Pick a scene
A rainy window, a late study session or a slow Sunday morning tells the generator which mood to aim for better than a list of adjectives.
Write the style line
Give the tempo, the drum feel, one lead instrument and the texture, and switch on instrumental mode so nobody sings over the loop.
Exclude the loud stuff
List vocals, drops and bright synth leads in the Exclude field so the takes stay soft.
Compare, then extend
Listen to every variation, keep the one with the steadiest groove and extend it from the end of a clean bar.
What makes a track sound lofi
Lofi hip-hop is built from a few simple ingredients played softly. The style grew out of sample-based beat making, so it often sounds like a loop lifted from an old record with drums sitting slightly behind the beat.
- Tempo: usually 70 to 90 BPM, with a lot of tracks sitting between 75 and 85.
- Drums: a soft kick, a dull snare or rim click and loose swung hi-hats placed a little late.
- Harmony: jazz-flavored seventh and ninth chords, often a two or four chord loop that repeats for the whole track.
- Instruments: electric piano, clean or nylon guitar, upright or round electric bass, the odd horn or vibraphone phrase.
- Texture: vinyl crackle, tape wobble and a gentle low-pass filter that rounds off the high end.
- Structure: one loop with small changes every 8 or 16 bars instead of verses and choruses.
Describing lofi in Simple and Custom mode
In Simple mode, write one or two sentences about the scene and the feel, for example "a slow lofi beat for a rainy evening of reading, warm piano chords, soft crackle, nothing loud", and let the Studio choose the details. For more control, switch to Custom mode, turn on instrumental mode and write a style line of up to 1,000 characters in order of importance: genre, tempo, drums, lead instrument, texture, mood.
Tempo and drum feel matter more than any adjective. "Lofi hip-hop, 78 BPM, swung dusty drums, mellow electric piano, round bass, vinyl crackle" and "lofi house, 118 BPM, four-on-the-floor kick, filtered chords" share a word and sound nothing alike.
What to exclude, and sub-styles worth naming
The Exclude field is the quickest fix when takes come back too busy. Useful entries are vocals, rap, EDM drop, bright synth lead, heavy distortion and crash cymbals. Keep the list short: five clear exclusions work better than twenty vague ones. Then name a sub-style so the generator knows which corner of lofi you mean.
- Lofi jazz: more chord movement, brushed drums and a muted trumpet or sax line. After the Rain, the demo on this page, lives here at 78 BPM with Rhodes, upright bass and a rainy-window calm.
- Chillhop: a little brighter and faster, cleaner drums and a more obvious melody.
- Lofi house: a four-on-the-floor kick around 115 to 122 BPM under dusty filtered chords.
- Sleepy lofi: barely-there drums, long pads and plenty of space between notes.
- Lofi guitar: clean fingerpicked guitar instead of keys, often in a minor key.
Instrumental tips for long listening
Lofi is often played for an hour at a stretch, so the best takes are the ones you stop noticing. Ask for "consistent groove" and "no sudden changes", keep a single lead instrument and keep the texture quiet. If the crackle or wobble gets overpowering, write "subtle tape character" rather than stacking lofi, vinyl and dusty together.
To lengthen a track, extend from the end of a clean bar so the loop carries on naturally. If one stretch has an odd drum fill or a sour chord, use replace section on that part only. For a playlist, several tracks generated from the same style line usually hold together better than one very long take.
What to expect and current limits
AI lofi is convincing but not flawless. The groove can drift a few BPM, the swing can turn stiff, and the generator leans on familiar moves such as the same rain ambience and the same minor-seventh loop. One request can return more than one variation, so listen to each on headphones before you choose.
The credit cost is shown before you generate, and finished tracks stay private in your library until you share them. From there you can convert to WAV or split stems to rebuild the drums yourself. Putting tracks on a stream or a playlist depends on your plan, the Terms, your inputs and the law; the AI music copyright guide covers the details.
